A Hand-Typed Post

In this our society I have noticed a peculiar trend of specific preferences. Hands.
        Hand-breaded nuggets, hand-written message, hand-made purse, hand-knit hat, hand-sown dress, hand-fried chicken, hand-played instrument...etc. etc.
Want to get people interested in an item you made? Add the prefix "hand-" and you will have people knocking down your door for that product. Want people to eat the burger you just grilled? Just add some hand leafed lettuce. Want people to read a blog post you just wrote? Hand type it. (wait....)
        How do you feel about this fad of fashion? Is it really good to have hands touching everything? But, on a side note, how awesome would hand-fried bacon taste? Not just fried bacon, hand fried. It makes all the difference... (But I'm not exactly sure how that would all play out...)
Just some food for thought!

(Now I'm going to go and hand-make some tea, hand-write some schoolwork and hand-play the violin...)

Bacon, Turkey, and Benjamin Franklin

In 1784, Benjamin Franklin wrote a letter to his daughter telling her that he wished that, instead of the lazy bald eagle, who has bad moral character, Congress would have chosen the wild turkey for the national bird. He also said this because turkeys are a more respectable bird, and are native to America.

 This was well over 200 years ago, but, in the grocery store the other day, a thought struck me. The turkey, offended by this "whole not getting to represent his country" thing is now trying to make his way back into our everyday lives. It started with Thanksgiving, and it's an American tradition to eat turkey at Thanksgiving... I mean, I don't think I've ever eaten a bald eagle at that time of year, have you? Then, deli meat...My whole family loves turkey sandwiches...We also eat turkey burgers. Yep, ground turkey patties can also double as the classic dish usually made with beef. And now, the turkey is trying to beat out pork. We never eat real bacon anymore. The turkey has us cornered, because it pulls off a mock pork taste, and it's way more healthy! But, back to the grocery store. As my mom pulled the turkey sausage off the shelf, I pulled off the pork sausage. She compared nutritional info, and got a betrayed look on her face. The pork sausage had 15 grams less cholesterol! We looked at each other, shocked, and as the turkey sausage went back on the shelf, I grinned. The turkey might be able to be bacon, burgers, sandwich ect... And it might be more healthy than some meats, and taste just as good, but it hasn't beat out the sausage yet! :)

 { *Disclaimer* This post was kind of a joke, as in, the turkey actually caring that it isn't the national bird. But, there is some truth to it making it's way into practically every food.... :) }

PS (here is a funny video that my siblings love to watch before bed, but it gets stuck in your head!)
Also, life has been CRAZY lately, so sorry posts are lacking and rather random.... But I should be back to posting somewhat normally next week. :)

Summer is here...

Ah.. Sorry for the lack of blog posts in the last month. (Has it been that long?) I haven't much time to post, but I thought I say hello, and tell you all I am still alive. Summer is here, and the weather is wonderful. (hot, yes, but wonderful all the same.) I spent a bit of time with a couple of my really good friends at a lake and we had a blast!! Not to mention, some totally AWEsome photo shoots...

Well, I've got little siblings to read books to and play dolls with...so, posting will have to wait until further notice! Hope your summer is going well!

(Insert title here)

I have nothing against science. at all. And people who love science and are good at it totally impress me. But, I can tell you now that I would much rather be doing research on the Titanic and start writing the short story I'm planning. But, today was a math and science day, and so you don't feel left out, dear reader, I will clue you in.
Atom=The smallest chemical unit of matter, (not to be confused with the amazing...)
Cell=The smallest unit of life
Metabolism=The sum total of all processes in an organism that convert energy and matter from outside sources and use that energy and matter to sustain that organism's life functions.
Deooxyribonucleic acid=DNA
In DNA, adenine only links to thymine (and vice versa) while cytosine only links to guanine. {does it help me that they all are really similar in spelling and pronunciation? No.}
Photosynthesis= The process by which green plants and some other organisms use their energy of sunlight and simple chemicals to produce their own food.
Well, off to take a test! To not leave you hanging with a bunch of confusing science terms, here's this hilarious video.

Just for you!!!

This post is entirely about and dedicated to Belle. Her blog is HERE.
We were joking the other night about doing blog posts about each other. And, even thought she beat me to it, I am not going to let this opportunity slip through my fingers. Belle is my awesome 2nd cousin, (and to steal her words) starting to feel more like an older sister. She is hilarious, smart and thoughtful. We always have a ton of fun together, whether it be tubing, watching cooking shows or doing homework with magnetic stickers and lots of twizzlers... :) (long story) she is an amazing cook, and a great friend. She is a good sport about a lot of things, from 3 older brothers to a weird cousin who at one point was obsessed with barbies.  She is a great role model, especially in the way she loves Christ. She is a bright light in this fallen world, and stands out for her savior.  She is definitely someone I totally look up to. And she is crazy, giggly, funny, totally odd, and can be blonde at times. But with that being said, she is also reserved (sometimes) and very smart. I love her so much!!!

Random-itus

Sometimes I get into the mood to post random things.  So, here are some random things to make a hodge podge post. (Whether it is interesting or not I will leave up to you...)
Trying to explain this picture would be a bit difficult :) Let's just say Daddy and I always have fun playing with the ipad...
 This is me on vacation with my awesome cousin Belle. She is so cool... Her birthday is tomorrow too, so happy bday cousin! She and I always have fun together, and I look up to her like a sister. :)

                                                         I LOVE her music...

 My dad took us on a hike, and I thought this picture turned out pretty good for an iphone...
OH, my... I love this little stinker. She is funny, naughty, cute, loving, and just so Lillers. I love her so bad.
Okay, so at orchestra the other day, my good friend said this and I totally am going to start using this..."Don't listen to what I say, listen to what I mean." That fits me because sometimes words sound great in my head or look good on paper, but do not come out right.
Here is probably the most random thing though. We have the First season of the original Muppet show, and the kids thought this was HILARIOUS. I must say, it totally gave me the giggles the first time too.
 Well, I'm signing off now. We are on our way to see our cousins for Easter, and I am excited!!! I am sitting in a hotel bed right now blogging while my brother is next to me playing Angry Birds, and my 4 younger siblings are watching Mickey Mouse. Ha, Ha, only on spring break...Well, Maybe see you later, but if not, Happy Easter. Jesus is ALIVE!!!

Well, get ready to read...

Well, I was going to do a long post about what I have been up to lately, (not much, I assure you) but, I decided to spare you the boredom. Instead, I am just going to say that I am thoroughly enjoying watching Monsters Inc. with my siblings right now. (This is one of the scary movies we watch at our house. We had to fast forward the whole beginning...) And on a random note, I was very surprised to learn how many people I know actually read my blog. The Akbar video for example, some people would be like, " I saw that video your blog..." (with various mixed facial expressions)  then I would be like, "Oh yeah! Funny, huh? Wait... you read my blog?" (cough, cough, sheepish smile...) And on another random note, I finished the book, 'Scottish Chiefs' by Jane Porter, and then watched 'Braveheart'. Totally loved it! As always, the book was better, and William Wallace, well, he's awesome! Then, I started the 'Mark of the Lion' series by Francine Rivers and I CAN'T PUT IT DOWN!!! I finished the 1st book in like 2 days and I am almost done with the 2nd. I'll have to save the 3rd for the plane ride to Ethiopia..... It is a captivating series and totally grips and moves the reader. I not only like to read historical fiction, but I like writing it too, so it's fun to read and grab little tips from here and there. I guess I am kinda rambling on now, so I will stop. I think I might snatch some of the popcorn my brother just popped and watch American Idol...
BTW This will probably be the last blog post until I get back from Ethiopia! I am so excited, and AFRAID. But the good thing is, the more I am afraid, the more I can trust in Jesus, with my personal needs, spiritual needs, and any other nasty fear that decides to latch onto my brain. If you would please pray for our team while we are gone, it would be so awesome. God truly does listen to us, and knows what we need, even before we ask. Please pray for our hearts, to be prepared to not follow our own agendas, but look to others needs before our own, and that we can be shining lights to the people we will be meeting, and that God will open other peoples hearts if we have chances to share the gospel. Also for the language barrier, my cousin Ja Ja encouraged me about that the other night. She reminded me that even when we don't speak the same language, Christ's love can still bleed through our every action and motive. And also for personal health and travel complications. We are going to be fellowshipping with beautiful group of believers, and I am rejoicing that I will have a chance to sing with the nations!
Sorry for rambling, and thanks for reading. (or skimming the page, stopping at the interesting parts.... same difference. smile....)

Here is a random picture of me that you might find amusing. Yea, there really isn't any suitable caption for that. But if you think of one, comment!

Ummm.....

No, I'm not obsessed with Jeffery Dallas. It's just a really fun song to sing harmony to (I was actually singing melody) but anyway. I would say that this is the band Fuzzy Bunnies in the Pool, but we are missing T-Bird. Bummer! We'll have to do another cover when he is with us. Anyway, enjoy, and go ahead, share it!
